The Uckfield Singers are delighted and excited to announce that they have appointed internationally renowned tenor, Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts as their new musical director and replacement for Monica Das who left the choir last summer.
Jeff has performed and sung leading roles with acclaimed opera companies and orchestras in the UK and abroad, including Opera North, the Royal Opera House, Welsh National Opera, Queensland Opera and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He has a passion for singing, which started whilst growing up in the great choral tradition of his native Wales. Jeff went on to become a member of the National Youth Choir of Wales, where one of his contemporaries was Sir Bryn Terfel and read music at Lancaster University before studying at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Nick Poole, Chairman of Uckfield Singers, commented:
“We are incredibly pleased to welcome Jeff as our new musical director. We are looking forward hugely to benefiting from his knowledge and experience of singing and music making. His enthusiasm and love for the great sound a choir can make is already rubbing off on us.
We are also delighted to confirm that Wendy Wasels, who was our musical director for our last Christmas concert will be our deputy musical director and take rehearsals when Jeff is away due to concert and opera commitments.”
Our Christmas Concert raised £400 for St. Wilfrid's Hospice in Eastbourne.
The audience were entertained by the choir singing a variety of Christmas songs, plus guests Tom Wassels, and Trys, Lauren and Steve from The Kings Church.
They also had the opportunity to sing along to some traditional carols.
