CHARITY BASED 'NOT-FOR-PROFIT' CHOIR
Our community choir started in 2007 - we are a large not-for-profit choir, our members comprise all ages and abilities who love to sing and at the same time raise money for local & national charities. We sing everything from Les Miserables to Abba, Elton John to Rogers & Hammerstein and everything inbetween. Our rehearsals are fun in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. We hold two concerts a year, also occasionally attending events and workshops.
In July 2017, Sue Daniels stepped down as Chairman after 8 years. Sue is a founder member of the choir, and has served 10 years on committee. She was presented with a specially commisioned bowl, a card made by Quinta Dean and signed by all the choir members, and vouchers. Choir member Erika Pratt had made a special ‘S’ cake of chocolate brownies, eclairs and strawberries, enjoyed by everyone. She has been made Honorary President in recognition of her hard work and dedication to the choir.
Nick Poole takes over as Chariman.
On Saturday 22nd July, the Uckfield Singers gave their 11th annual Summer Concert in the Civic Centre.
The audience were entertained with a wide variety of songs from pop to folk, musicals and films.
The first half began with “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Freddie Mercury, and finished with a medley of songs by Richard Rodgers; the second half started with a rousing rendition of “Let the River Run” by Carly Simon and ended up with a medley of highlights from the musical Grease.
At the end of the concert, a giant cheque for £425.25 was presented to Georgina Cook on behalf of Chestnut Tree House Children’s’ Hospice, from the proceeds of the raffle.
Once again, many thanks go to C.P.J Field (inc. Cooper & Sons and Fuller & Scott) for sponsoring the cost of the programmes, Gale and Woolgar for ticket sales, and to Quarry Printing for once again producing excellent flyers and programmes.
'THE UCKFIELD SINGERS GO TRAVELLING
The Uckfield Singers travelled to Eltham in South-East London on
Saturday 8th July to take part in a very successful concert hosted by
their old friends, the Greenwich Community Choir. Their programme,
which included songs by Queen, Richard Rodgers and Paul Simon was very well received by an appreciative audience.
Why the connection with Greenwich? Two of the Uckfield Singers used to
sing with the Greenwich Community Choir and have maintained links with
them – in fact this is the second concert held in Eltham. The Uckfield
Singers look forward to a return visit planned for 2018 when the
Greenwich Community Choir will visit Uckfield. Keep a look-out for
We recently celebrated our 10th birthday with a party, attended by 90 choir members, partners, guests and friends. We enjoyed a wonderful hot supper provided by one of our choir members, Erika, who runs her own catering company “Moveable Feasts”, danced all evening to Groove 101, a 6-piece band from Tunbridge Wells, held our own “Ucksters” Awards Ceremony (with only minor envelope confusion, quickly rectified) and cut the Champagne Bottle birthday cake, also made by Erika. Some of our members went on stage with the band for an ‘audience participation’ number, which they carried off with style. We all agreed it was a great party and a fantastic way to celebrate our milestone event.
